






PUTTALAM : With the generous support of All Ceylon Young Women’s Muslim Association (YWMA Sri Lanka), the upstairs construction work of Al Aqsha Jummah Mosque, together with the installation of new fans and lights, was successfully completed and officially opened on Sunday, 08th February 2026 at Sadhamiyapuram, Thillayadi, Puttalam,
The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of the Chief Guest,. Fawaza Thaha, President of YWMA Sri Lanka, along with the YWMA team. The event was further honored by the presence of Mohammed Rasooldeen, Chief Editor of Colombo Times, Khalid M. Farouk, Former President and patron of All Ceylon YMMA, and Mujahith Nizar, Coordinator and Mohamed Rafi ,Trustee of Al Aqsa Jummah Mosque and the Women’s Group, together with many other distinguished guests, religious leaders, social activists, and community members
Speaking at the event, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of community development, women’s empowerment, and collective responsibility in supporting religious and social institutions. They appreciated the continuous humanitarian and social service contributions of YWMA Sri Lanka towards the betterment of vulnerable communities across the country.
In her brief speech , Fawaza Thaha thanked the sponsors of the project which enabled the YWMA to build the first of the mosque. She outlined the various activities of her organization which are solely bent on serving the deserving people in the motherland .
Rasooldeen praised the indefatigable efforts of the YWMA which is ably led by Fawaza that helped people ameliorate the. living conditions of the deserving people .
Mujahith Nizar commended the various activities of the organization led by Thaha and recalled that the YWMA has been with less fortunates in Puttalam for the past 10 years
The successful completion of this project stands as a significant milestone for the local Muslim community, enhancing the facilities of the mosque to better serve worshippers, especially during Jummah prayers and the holy month of Ramadan. The organizers expressed heartfelt gratitude to YWMA Sri Lanka, donors, well-wishers, and all those who contributed directly and indirectly to making this noble initiative a success.
