KANDY : Weswood International College, Katugastota has started off their campaign of cricket for the season of the year 2024 on a winning note as they crushed their neighbouring rivals Zahira for 111 runs off 38 overs in an exciting encounter that was worked off at the playground of Azhar College Akurana on 25th July 2024.
This under 15 match of Division 3 that is conducted by the SLSCA in all the districts of Sri Lanka is a great opportunity the budding cricketers to display their superiority and talent in cricket.
Zahira College led by wicketkeeper batsman L.M. Ahlam was not allowed to score freely as the Wesswoodian Captain, the outstanding all rounder Aadham Zaman single handedly broke the batting line up of Zahira collecting 7 valuable wickets. Six of the batsmen of Zahira were cleaned bowled by Aadam to earn the first innings winning points for Wesswood International College.Skippper Ahlam and Anfas Ahmed were among runs for Zahira as they made 32 runs and 16 respectively. Chasing the target, Wesswoodian batsmen bravely encountered the Zahira attack, though the openers were sent packing by the Zahiran bowlers.
A third wicket partnership of 65 runs ensured that Wesswood went past the total of Zahira. Once again it was the skipper of Wesswood, Adam rose to the occasion to build a big partnership with their wicketkeeper Shihab Shifan to ensure their victory. Ideally, Aadham and Shihab shifan scored 42 and 19 respectively putting theZahirian bowlers under pressure. When these two batters were got out it was late order batsmen M.R. M. Zain and M.S.Mohamed Amhar who reached past the target. Particularly Zain played a brillant innings to get 15 runs that was studded with two towering sixes. For the losers M.Afrin claimed 3 wickets while Anfas Aahim and Mohammed Afsal got 2 wickets apiece. When the match ended Zahira were 88 for five in their second innings.
