VICTORIA: UAE beat Namibia in the last Group A encounter by a marginal 7 runs and clears route for Netherland to join the Super 12s along with Sri Lanka from Group A.
Batting first UAE scored 148 runs for the loss of 3 wickets with a fine half century from Muhammad Waseem. David Wiese fought valiantly with 55 runs to take Namibia across the winning line but recovery was impossible after being down at 46 for 5 wickets. Zahoor Khan and Basil Hameed picked up 2 wickets while Waseem picked up 1 for 16 runs to ensure UAE won by 7 runs. Namibia was restricted to 141 for 8 wickets in the allocated 20 overs.
Sri Lanka and Netherland are the top 2 two teams who will qualify for the Super 12 round.
The final encounters of Group B will unfold tomorrow between West Indies and Ireland and Scotland will compete against Zimbabwe to identify the top 2 teams who would qualify for the Super 12. Sri Lanka’s first encounter in Super 12 will be to compete against the Runner Up of Group B on Sunday.
