COLOMBO- The Buddha Saasana and Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister Vidura Wickremanayake,on Monday, July 11, revoked the suspension order issued to the Wakf Board on Tuesday, July 5.
The decision was made by the minister on representations made by 12 civil societies which were aggrieved by the earlier suspension.
The civil society members who met the minister included Hilmy Ahmed , Nadvi Bahaudeen, Gefari Dalpandu and Shiraz Noordeen.
In a circular addressed on behalf of Minister Wickremanayake, the ministry’s Secretary Somaratne Withanapathy has said that the Wakf Board can resume its activities as usual till the end if its term on conditions laid out in his letter.
Somaratne said that the minister was acting on the powers vested in him under section 33 of the 1982 of the Wakf Board Ordinance.
The members of the Wakf Board comprise Shabry Haleemdeen, A. Uthuman Lebbe, Zacky Ahmed, Asheikh M Arkam Noorahmith, M Rafeek Ismail, M Siraj Abdul Wahid and Moulavi M.F. Fasrul.Rahman.
