
JEDDAH : The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Jeddah, in its capacity as Chair of the Asian Consuls General Club (ACGC), organized an exciting Bowling Tournament on Friday, 21st February 2025.
This engaging event was held as part of the club’s ongoing efforts to foster camaraderie and collaboration among its members.
Thirteen out of the 14 ACGC member countries participated in the informal networking tournament, which included representation from Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Singapore. Each country’s consulate fielded a team of Consul Generals, diplomatic staff, and family members.
The tournament, which lasted for two hours, was filled with energy and friendly competition. The Indonesian team emerged victorious, claiming the championship title. Teams from China and India took home the 1st and 2nd Runner-Up positions, respectively. The winners were presented with their awards by the Consuls General of the ACGC.
In addition to the thrilling competition, the event featured a captivating showcase of each country’s uniqueness through video presentations. Guests were also treated to a delightful selection of traditional Sri Lankan delicacies.
In her closing remarks, Acting Consul General of Sri Lanka, Mafusa Lafir, expressed her gratitude to all participants for their enthusiastic involvement and commendable sportsmanship. She emphasized that the relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere of the event provided an excellent opportunity for staff from various consulates to network and strengthen their bonds. She also encouraged continued collaboration and interaction among consulate staff in the future to build on the success of this informal gathering.
The ACGC, established in 2011, is an informal group of 14 member countries aimed at promoting greater understanding, cooperation, and diplomatic ties through various events and informal gatherings in Jeddah throughout the year. Sri Lanka assumed the Chairmanship of the ACGC in July 2024, for a one year term.
