NEGOMBO: Sri Lanka observed the World Environment Day on Sunday, June 5 in all parts of the island.
The need to spread awareness is more pertinent than ever as the Earth, which is our home, is beset by perils of pollution, climate change and global warming.
Each year, a specific theme is decided to mark this day to amplify the important message behind it. This year’s theme is ‘Only One Earth’, which draws our attention towards playing our role effectively while living in perfect harmony with nature – without proving a burden on it.

The 2022 World Environment Day campaign : Only OneEarth calls for collective, transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore our planet,” UNEP said.
The staff of Dankotuwa Porcelain Factory organized a beach cleaning campaign in the coastal town of Negombo. The company staff were engaged in a massive cleaning campaign to keep the environment clean. The company’s Assistant General Manager Vinodh Seneviratne and the CO Channa Gunaratne also took part in the event.
Environment Minister Hafiz Naseer Ahamed said : “ While we celebrate the World Environment Day 2022, we have to be conscious of the increasingly challenging global concerns on climate change, impact on bio-diversity and all forms of pollution including air, water and soil pollution.”
