COLOMBO :Rayhan Wanniappa has been appointed as Deputy Director General (Air Transport and Security Regulation) of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka from Thursday,September 7
Rayhan Wanniappa is an Attorney-at-Law and has over 20 years of work experience both in the private bar and at the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka.
He has wide experience in Aviation legislation, bilateral agreements, Air Transport Policy Development and industry affairs.
He has represented Sri Lanka in nearly 200 inter-governmental bilateral air services negotiations including at the ICAO Conferences on Air Services Negotiations (ICAN) and negotiations with the European Union to successfully secure and expand traffic rights for Sri Lanka both at home and overseas.
He was the Chief Organizer of the ICAN Conference in 2017, COSCAP-South Asia Steering committee meeting in 2022 and the recently concluded first Sri Lanka Aviation day on 14th of July 2023 all hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka.
He has represented the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka at many International Organizations such as the International Civil Aviation Organization in Montreal and the International Labour Organisation in Geneva.
In October 2019, he was a part of the Sri Lanka delegation that participated at the Assembly of the international Civil Aviation Organisation in Montreal, Canada which saw the participation of nearly 170 states.
He also holds an Advance Masters in Air Transport Management from the French National School of Civil Aviation, where he was the graduating class representative.
He has also been a visiting lecturer in Commercial and Air Law at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Ratmalana. He also often speaks to Aviation Professionals and Students on Aviation Related topics.
A passionate Toastmaster, he is a regular speaker at various training programs.
He also enjoys travelling, sports and music.
