A Sri Lankan passenger was arrested by Customs officers at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, Thursday afternoon, April, (02) for attempting to smuggle a large stock of “Kush” narcotics into the country.
The suspect has been identified as a 38-year-old motorcycle silencer repair technician from Ragama.
According to Customs officials, he had arrived at the airport at around 12.30 p.m. from Bangkok, Thailand, on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-403.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had concealed approximately 25 kilograms and 500 grams of Kush inside 16 motorcycle silencers packed in four travel bags.
The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth around Rs. 250 million.
The suspect and the stock of drugs have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau at the Katunayake Airport for further investigations.
