COLOMBO : Professor Dr. Ramees Aboobucker assumed duties recently as the 5th Vice Chancellor of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.
He assumed duty and took his oaths before the University Registrar Abdul Saththar at the office of the Vice Chancellor.
The UGC nominated Council Members Eng. N.T.M. Sirajudeen and I.M. Haniffa were also present at this ceremonial function.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed Prof. Ramees Aboobucker as the Vice Chancellor of South Eastern University (SEU). Prior to the appointment , he was the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Culture, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.
This is the first time in the history of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, which has more than 25 years academic records, that a student of the University has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor.
He was educated as the first Bachelor of Sociology in the Faculty of Arts and Culture of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka and was elected as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Culture. Recently he was promoted as the first Professor of Sociology. Professor Rameez Aboobucker has been appointed Vice Chancellor at a very young age in the history of the University System of Sri Lanka.
