COLOMBO – Deva, the famous music composer and singer who passed away at 75 on Saturday in Chennai , has been one of my favourite musicians since my childhood.
His distinctive voice, exceptional musical talent, humble personality, and warm smile have earned him a special place in our hearts. Although my professional background is in the medical field, I have always appreciated music, artistic expression, meditation, and emotional well-being.
During my time in the Middle East, I witnessed how Deva’s wonderful songs created happiness, enthusiasm, and lively participation at community gatherings. His music connected people emotionally and socially. I was privileged to meet him twice at musical events in Jeddah and those meetings remain special memories for me.
Today, as we honour his life and reflect on the respect shown at his funeral, I feel deeply moved by the tributes paid to this remarkable artiste by people. from all walks of life.
The presence of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, together with senior actors, musicians, film directors, and other distinguished personalities from the cinema industry, reflects the affection and respect shown for his contribution to music and entertainment. His demise is a great loss to the music world and to his countless admirers. Nevertheless, his musical legacy will continue to inspire future generations too . His son, who also has a wonderful voice, offers hope of continuing his father’s musical journey. Although we have lost Deva physically, his music will continue to resonate in our hearts. His melodies, memories, and contributions to the world of music will never be forgotten.
My family and I extend our heartfelt respect and admiration for this remarkable musician. May his soul rest in peace, and may his musical legacy live on forever.
