

COLOMBO ; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath and the Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe met with Nimesha Premachandra, who was crowned Mrs. Tourism World 2026 in Manila, Philippines, on 2 October 2026, at the Ministry yesterday.
The discussion focused on the Mrs. Tourism World 2026 pageant, Nimesha’s experience representing Sri Lanka at the international competition, her participation in the various stages of the pageant, and her achievements in securing the world title along with several special awards.
The meeting also explored how Nimesha could use her international recognition to promote Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, showcase the country’s cultural heritage and attractions, and enhance Sri Lanka’s visibility among international audiences.
Nimesha, a Sri Lankan schoolteacher, television presenter and actress, earned the international title while competing against representatives from approximately 20 countries. She also received four special distinctions: Ambassador for Education, Best in Runway, Best in Talent – Silver, and the Woman of Influence Award.
Through her advocacy, “Connecting Cultures. Nurturing Future Citizens,” Nimesha aims to promote Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage, natural beauty and tourism attractions to international audiences. Her work also focuses on education, women’s empowerment and the welfare of underprivileged children.
The meeting highlighted the potential to use her international platform to strengthen Sri Lanka’s tourism promotion, encourage cultural exchange and showcase the achievements of Sri Lankan women to the world.
