
COLOMBO : TPA leader Mano Ganesan MP, said here on Tuesday,March 25 that his recent meeting with US Ambassador Julie Cheung was productive hoping the bilateral relations between the two countries expected to reach new heights.
Ambassador Cheung had informed Mano Ganesan that Trump Admin may demand GoSL to increase imports from USA to reduce the huge trade imbalance.
“ Our message to the USA was that “#USAFirst” & “#LankaFirst” policies should meet at a positive point for both countries,” Ganesan said.
USA accounts for 23% of Sri Lanka’s annual exports, valued at $16B, but Sri Lanka imports $370M worth of goods from the USA.
“Our host informed us that the #TrumpAdmin may expect Lanka to increase imports from the US in order to reduce trade imbalance. We were also informed that US cotton fabric raw material for the Lankan apparel industry is one such possible import that could be increased,” Ganesan concluded.
