COLOMO : The Maligawatte Police, in collaboration with the Masjids’ Federation of Maligawatte, hosted the 2nd Annual Iftar Ceremony on Tuesday.April 2, at the premises of the Maligawatte Police Station.
The event which was held under the patronage of the Officer in Charge of the police station, Bathiya Jayasinghe, drew a distinguished crowd including clerics, businessmen, councilors, and well-wishers from various ethnic background.
In his address, OIC Bathiya Jayasinghe commended the positive relationship between the local residents and the police force, expressing gratitude for the Muslim community’s contributions to the multi-ethnic and multi-cultural fabric of Maligawatte. He lauded their cooperation in maintaining the area’s integrity and preventing all forms of vice. Ash Sheikh Shiyam Azar Moulavi delivered a speech highlighting the significance of Ramadan, emphasizing its virtues and spiritual importance. He said, “beyond the physical act of abstaining from food and drink from dawn until sunset, it serves as a spiritual journey of self-discipline, reflection, and heightened devotion to Allah, and compassion for those less fortunate.”
