

CHENNAI : The life story of Sri Lanka’s leading Tamil poet and acclaimed film lyricist Pottuvil Asmin has now been documented in an English biography titled “POTTUVIL ASMIN: From Pottuvil to the World – A Global Tamil Voice”. The book was officially launched through Amazon Kindle, marking a significant literary milestone for the global Tamil community.
The grand book launch event was recently held in Chennai and was graced by Mr. Allirajah Subaskaran, Chairman of Lyca Group, Dr. Prema Subaskaran, Chairperson of Lyca Health, and Mr. GKM Tamil Kumaran, CEO of Lyca Productions, who collectively unveiled the biography.
Pottuvil Asmin rose to prominence in Tamil cinema through his debut song “Thappellaam Thappae Illai”, composed by music director and actor Vijay Antony in the film Naan. With over 27 years of contribution to the fields of art, literature, media, and cinema, Asmin has established himself as a vital voice in contemporary Tamil creativity.
He has authored notable Tamil poetry collections such as:
“Vidiyalin Raagangkal”(2001),”Vidae Thedum Vinaakkal”(2002),”Paambugal Kulikkum Nathi”(2013)
His work has also been featured in the prestigious anthology “Kalaignar 100 Kavithaigal 100”, curated by legendary Tamil poet Vairamuthu in memory of the late Chief Minister Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi.
Asmin’s emotional tribute to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, titled “Vaane Idindhathamma”, resonated deeply and was played continuously at her memorial for over two months.
One of his most celebrated creations, “Ayyo Saami Nee Enakku Venaam”, became the most-viewed Tamil song ever produced in Sri Lanka, highlighting his widespread appeal and cultural relevance.
With over 30 national and international awards, Pottuvil Asmin was honored by the Cambodian Ministry of Arts and Culture with the prestigious “International Kaviyarasu Kannadasan Award”, recognizing his global impact on Tamil poetry and songwriting.
Most recently, his lyrics in the Tamil album song “Muttakanni”, composed by Srikanthdewa and sung by Mullai Sasi, featuring
