COLOMBO : Sri Lankan born Laila Hussainmiya Ahmat, daughter of Professor Bacha and Zahra Hussainmiya is one of the women chosen to speak at the above Women Leaders’ Summit in New Zealand.
Laila is the Country Head of Finance for Schneider Electric New Zealand, a global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation.
Laila has returned to New Zealand after 9 years in Senior Finance roles in Asia, where she was the Chief Financial Officer of Darussalam Assets overseeing the Finance, IT, Administration & Real Estate functions of Brunei’s Government Linked Companies. The Group’s portfolio included aviation, telecommunications, power utilities, logistics, agribusiness, f&b, leisure, and tourism, medical, education, hospitality, and real estate. Prior to Darussalam Assets, Laila was the Head of Corporate Finance at Telecom Brunei overseeing the company’s finance operations.
Laila began her career with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) New Zealand in the Graduate Training Program, later moving to audit advisory. Thereafter, joining Telecom New Zealand in a range of commercial and finance roles including External Reporting, Group Consolidation, IFRS and SOX compliance.
Laila holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting & Finance and a Postgraduate Degree in Commercial Law from the University of Auckland. Laila is a Chartered Accountant and a mentor with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. She has also achieved the top percentile rank in the University of Oxford Executive Leadership Program.
