KUWAIT: The Public Authority of Manpower inaugurated its new expatriate labor shelter center for men on Sunday. The center aims to protect expatriate workers’ rights and combat human trafficking. It is the first facility for male expatriates and the second shelter in the country, accommodating expats adjusting their residency status.
Public relations and media director and head of the organizing committee for mediation between the Public Authority of Manpower and institutions of civil society and public interest societies, Mohammed Al-Muzaini, thanked the attendees and representatives from public institutions, including the Social Work Society, Kuwait Society for Human Rights, Kuwait Humanitarian and Friendship Society, Patients Helping Fund Society, and the Kuwait Red Crescent Society.
“Following the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah to uphold Kuwait’s humanitarian efforts, the manpower authority is committed to providing all necessary benefits and legal protection for expatriate workers,” Al-Muzaini said. He added that in line with the national holidays, “We emphasize the importance of this principle, as we strive to collaborate with government, private, and civil institutions to uphold the rights of expatriate workers and provide them with essential care. Our goal is to develop and strengthen a culture of human rights and raise awareness to combat human trafficking.”
Dr Fahad Al-Murad, deputy director general of the labor protection sector, stated: “Today, we gather to express our gratitude to all who have contributed to supporting and preparing this shelter for expatriate workers. This center stands as a humanitarian testament reflecting Kuwait’s values of mercy and camaraderie.” The center spans 10,000 square meters and can accommodate 200 workers, with the potential for expansion. It features bedrooms, sports courts and recreation halls, as well as offices for relevant authorities, worship rooms, a medical clinic offering primary services, a restaurant and a centralized kitchen.
“The inauguration of this center would not have been possible without the efforts of civil institutions, which play a fundamental role in promoting humanitarian and social rights. These institutions have demonstrated their effectiveness in enhancing social unity, assisting those in need, and finding sustainable solutions to protect workers who have faced harm. They provide necessary material support, services, and humanitarian and legal aid to ensure a safe environment that upholds the dignity and rights of expatriate workers,” Al-Murad said.
He praised the spirit of social responsibility displayed by participating societies, legal organizations and private sector contributors who helped establish the center and provide essential services. “Thanks to your cooperation and dedication, this center stands as an exemplary model of collaborative humanitarian work and a safe haven for those in need of protection.” “We extend our appreciation to all supporting institutions. The collaboration between the government and civil society will remain fundamental in strengthening social justice and protecting vulnerable individuals, reinforcing Kuwait’s position as a leader in humanitarian efforts,” Al-Murad concluded.kuwait times
