COLOMBO : A special meeting held recently at the Office of the Prime Minister between the Executive Committee Members of the ACJU and the Hon. Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Training, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
Representing the ACJU were its General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, Secretaries of Sub-committees, and other members.
During the meeting, an introduction to the history and past activities of the ACJU was presented, emphasizing the organization’s consistent efforts to promote unity and harmony among all Sri Lankans. The Hon. Prime Minister was also briefed on the significant contributions made by Islamic scholars (Ulama) to the nation. Key challenges faced by the Muslim community were highlighted, including: Educational challenges confronting the Muslim community, difficulties faced by Arabic Colleges and the issues surrounding the appointment of Islamic Scholars as Teachers.
In response, the. Prime Minister assured that under her leadership, an environment of equitable and inclusive education for all communities would be fostered. She also emphasized the importance of cooperation from the Muslim community in achieving these goals.
The Prime Minister further stressed the need to uphold and protect the rights of all citizens, regardless of their differences, and expressed her vision of fostering a society where every citizen is respected equally. She underscored the importance of the Muslim community’s active support in building such an environment.
Additionally, the Prime Minister expressed her willingness to engage in constructive and continuous dialogue with the ACJU on these matters.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Sinhala translation of the Holy Quran, along with other publications by the ACJU, were presented to the Hon. Prime Minister.

This meeting marks a significant step in fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between the ACJU and the Government for the betterment of the nation.
