

COLOMBO :Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath met with Chairman of the Nippon Foundation Yohei Sasakawa on Thursday, 6 February 2025 in Colombo. Discussions focused on strengthening Sri Lanka-Japan relations and exploring avenues for future collaboration.
Chairman Sasakawa highlighted the historic ties between Sri Lanka and Japan, and commended Sri Lanka for making positive strides under the new government. He recognised tourism as a key sector for foreign exchange earnings and also emphasised the significant role that private individuals can play in fostering closer bilateral ties.
The Minister appreciated the work of Chairman Sasakawa and the Nippon Foundation for their longstanding support and contributions to Sri Lanka. He welcomed Chairman Sasakawa’s visit to Jaffna during his stay, noting it as an encouraging step towards deeper engagement. The Minister further stated that there is significant potential for future collaboration between Sri Lanka and the Nippon Foundation in areas of mutual interest.
