COLOMBO: The National Election Commission (EC) said the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance had informed them that the current financial difficulties in the country has made it difficult to provide funds to conduct the Local Government (LG) polls. The Secretary had also stated that the government’s administrative decision to allocate funds only for essential services was another contributing factor.
After the Government Printer, Gangani Liyanage revealed that her institution had not been provided sufficient funds to print the ballot papers, the EC announced its decision to postpone casting of postal votes which had been scheduled for the 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 28th of February, until further notice.
