COLOMBO :The government has suspended Tharaweeh, Jummah prayers, Qiyamul Layl and other congregational prayers and activities in Mosques until further notice with effect from Thursday, April 28
In a circular addressed to all mosques, A.B.M. Ashraf, Director, Muslim Mosques and Charitable Trust and Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, said the decision has been taken in consultations with the health ministry and the Wakfs Board as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 which has already affected a number of persons in Sri Lanka.
The circular states as follows: Suspension of all congressional activities and congregational prayers including Five time prayers, Tharaweeh and Jummah prayers in all Mosques in the Island, until further notice ; permission given only to a maximum of 25 persons at any given time, only for daily five times prayers in any Mosque. Worshippers advised to wear face masks, maintain one-meter distance, to use their own prayer mats and taking ablution from home are compulsory and all ablution areas in Mosques to be kept closed.
