COLOMBOSri Lanka boasts only a few educational institutions with a legacy spanning over 130 years. Among these, Zahira College’s Old Boys’ Association (OBA), which has existed for more than a century, comprises 45 affiliated groups, all dedicated to supporting their Alma mater.
One such prominent group is G70, established nearly 20 years ago with the primary objective of fostering fellowship among its members and supporting the school’s educational and developmental endeavours.
Today, G70 stands as a formidable force, proudly contributing four members to the OBA, including the Vice President and the Editor.
On June 23, 2024, G70 held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Swimming Pool Complex, which was filled to capacity.
The meeting began with the customary recital of Qirath, followed by the College Anthem and a dua in memory of all deceased members. The agenda proceeded with the reading of the notice, minutes of the previous meeting, the Annual Report of 2021, and the adoption of the Audited Report, which had been circulated among the members.
Principal Mr. Triizvii Marikkar presented mementos to all senior members in recognition of their selfless services. A special newsletter was also published, highlighting the group’s achievements.
The meeting concluded with a sumptuous meal and an assortment of mouth-watering desserts, embodying the spirit of fellowship and camaraderie.
Founder Treasurer of the Group of 70 late Harris Farook was remembered along with other founder members at the meeting for contribution and valuable service and support. Muslim Marriage Registrar and member of the Group of 70’s Fouzul Aleem Farook received token of appreciation on behalf of his brother from Principal of the College Trizviiy Marikkar.
