COLOMBO — Author Ashroff Shiabdeen’s ” Dr. Shafi’s Struggle Against Injustice ” book launching ceremony held at the BMICH on Friday May 9.
It was held under the patorange of Abrar Foundation Chairman Consultant Paediatrician Dr. Rayees Mustafa and Zainab Shafi daughter of Dr. Shafi Shabdeen delivered the welcome address.
Governor of the Western Province Haneef Yoosuf was present as chief guest,while the special guest were South Eastern University Chancellor President Counsel Faisz Musthapha and Former Western Province Governor Azath Salley.
A documentary was screened about Dr. Shafi’s struggles during that period.
Former representative of Sri Lanka to UN A.L.A. Azeez reviewed the book and Open University Visiting Lecturer Mrs. Sumaiya Sherifudeen also addressed the gathering.
Also Dr. Shafi thanked the Muslim Community and friends and relatives who conducted prayers and observed fasting for his release during that period and he also recalled that when he was arrested without any mistakes by some racist politicians. He had requested all the Muslims lo be calm and quite during the ordeal.
Dr. Shafi Shabdeen presented the maiden copy of the book to chief guest Western Province Governor Haneef Yoosuf at this ceremony.
Member of Parliament Mujeebur Rahuman, All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama Secretary Ash Sheik Arkam Nooramith, Former Member of Parliament Ishak Rahuman, ANCL Lake House Thinakaran Chief Editor Senthil Velavar, Representatives of Muslim Organizations, Authors, Editors of print and electronic media, family members and friends of Dr. Shafi also graced the event.
