NEGOMBO: There is a risk of spreading dengue in Negombo. Chief Public Health Inspector H.A.U.K Gunaratne told Colombo Times that 44 dengue patients were identified in the Negombo Municipal Council Health Division in last May.
So far this month, 7 people have been identified. The increase comes as 13 people were infected with dengue in April.
Most of the patients have been identified in Talahena, Kurana, Beach Road and Periyamullai areas in Negombo.
Following the heavy rains, the dengue mosquitoes have started spreading rapidly.
People need to keep their environment clean and protect themselves from waterborne dengue, as the government to does not have stocks ofinsecticidee to fight the menace. Shortage of fuel has aggravated the situation since the vehicles cannot be mobilized to spray the insecticide in dengue-prone areas.
