

KANDY :The UAE Search and Rescue team, affiliated with the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority, is continuing its intensive field operations in affected areas across Sri Lanka as part of the UAE’s urgent response to support the Sri Lankan people following the floods and landslides caused by Cyclone Detua.
In the early hours of the Saturday morning, on December 6 ,the team deployed to Rajathalava, one of the hardest-hit areas, which suffered massive landslides that buried homes and residents under debris. Upon arrival, the team immediately deployed specialized machinery and equipment, including search and rescue K9 units and advanced locating devices, to commence scouring the area and clearing rubble.
During the mission, the team successfully recovered 8 new bodies of landslide victims. This brings the total number of bodies recovered by the UAE team to 18 across the various zones assigned to them since the start of the mission.
Additionally, the team’s medical and ambulance unit provided first aid to 8 injured individuals, including an elderly woman and two children, who were treated on-site at the incident location.
The UAE team continues its operations despite challenging terrain and volatile weather conditions, receiving high appreciation from Sri Lankan authorities for their rapid response and operational efficiency. The UAE reaffirms its continued humanitarian support until Sri Lanka fully overcomes the impact of this natural disaster.
