

COLOMBO — The Karate Committee of Zahira College, Colombo hosted its much-anticipated Certificate Awarding Ceremony on Saturday August 2 at the prestigious N.D.H Abdul Ghafoor Hall, marking a proud chapter in the annals of Zahira Karate.
The event was honoured by the presence of Fouzul Hameed, Chairman of the Board of Governors, as the Chief Guest, and Trizviiy Marikkar , Principal of Zahira College, as the Guest of Honour.
Also gracing the occasion were APOG Bodi, other Sports Chairmen, members of the Board of Governors, OBA President Haaziq Jaleel, and PTA Secretary Hazmil Hamdoon, reflecting the strong institutional and community support behind the karate program.
Under the dedicated leadership of Mohamed Fayaz (Chairman, Karate Committee), S. Muhammad Fawzan (Deputy Chairman), and the committed Working Committee, together with Ms. Shamila Firjun (MIC) and Coach Sensai Mohammed Nazar, the event was a resounding success.
Certificates were proudly awarded to karatekas who advanced through their respective belt levels—White, Yellow, Orange, Purple, Brown, and Black—symbolizing their discipline, perseverance, and continuous growth. The momentous highlight was the awarding of the Black Belt to Master R M Mohamed Ruwaid, a milestone achievement that drew warm applause from the audience.
The ceremony was further enriched by an inspiring keynote speech by Khalid Oshman, the first Sri Lankan visually impaired athlete to compete in four Ironman 70.3 competitions and to complete marathon finishes in Paris, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. His words of determination and resilience deeply resonated with the young karatekas, motivating them to aim higher both in martial arts and in life.
The evening not only celebrated the achievements of the students but also showcased Zahira Karate as a beacon of discipline, leadership, and excellence—empowering the next generation with courage, respect, and commitment to lifelong learning.
