COLOMBO — All Ceylon YMMA Conference and Young Women’s Muslim Association.YWMA, jointly organized a farewell ceremony to the High Commissioner of Pakistan Major General (Retd) Umar Farooq Burki at the Kingsbury Hotel on Tuesday January 2.
National President of the YMMA Conference Ihsan Hmaeed and YWMA President Mrs. Fawaza Thaha welcomed the High Commissioner and his wife with garland and flower bouquets at this ceremony.
YMMA Ihsan Hameed and YWMA President Mrs. Fawaza Thaha praised the High Commissioner for his services to the Muslim Community in particular and the nation in general during his period in Sri Lanka.
Fawaza Thaha said the envoy took a special interest in helping the poor people by providing water supply and helping the widows in remote villages.
Colombo Times chief editor and YMMA Media sub-committee Chairman Mohammad Rasooldeen in his brief speech said the outgoing envoy played a beautiful innings in Sri Lanka not only by strengthening bilateral relations but also establishing people to people contacts in the island
YMMA Conference President and YWMA President presented a token of appreciation to the High Commissioner in recognition of his yeoman wervices
YMMA Patron and Past President Khalid M. Farook, Secretary Ashif Shukry, Vice Presidents, Past Presidents and members of the YWMA including its Secretary Soraya Rizvi were present. Rizvi proposed the vote of thanks while the immediate past president of the YMMA Shaheed M Rizmy presented a memento to the departing diplomat for launching a special programme to help the poor in the City.
