COLOMBO :The All Ceylon YMMA Conference, the premiere Muslim Civil Society Organisation serving youth in Sri Lanka, celebrated the 74th Independence Day at a simple Ceremony at its Headquarters situated in Dematagoda. Several other functions were held in parallel by its Member YMMAs (Branches) Island wide. The function was organised in collaboration with YMMA Central and the Borella Ahadiya School.
In keeping with tradition, the function began with the hoisting of the National Flag at the Headquarters by National President Saheed M Rismy, National General Secretary Mr. N G Saabir Sawaad, National General Treasurer U M Fazil, Past President Mr. Zubair Hassen and District Director for Colombo and Gampaha Mr. Nazare Kamil. The National anthem was sung followed by the YMMA Anthem and short prayer by Moulavi R M Mulaffar Nulari.
The National President in his Welcome Address emphasised the long history of coexistence between the Muslim Community and other Communities in the country as well as contribution of the Community to the struggle for Independence.
A brief speech on coexistence by Manikya Chandrajith a member of the YMMA Central was a special feature of this year’s ceremony.
Past Presidents and Members of the Executive Committee of the All Ceylon YMMA Conference, Key Officials and members of the YMMA Central, students, teachers and parents of the Borella Ahadiya School participated in this function while the coach and athletes of the Savate Kickboxing Team that secures 12 medals at the recently concluded 2nd Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Savate Kickboxing Championship in Lahore, Pakistan were the special guests on the occasion.
A separate function was held in the afternoon to felicitate the coach and medallists at the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Savate Kickboxing Championship in collaboration with the YMMA Central as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Which was followed by the Champion Athletes and their coach being taken on an open deck bus parade around the Colombo City.
