COLOMBO : The “Walk for Peace” led by Venerable Pannakara Thero, commenced Wednesday, April (22) from the historic Dambulla Rajamaha Viharaya.
Speaking at the launch, the Thero stated that peace begins within oneself, emphasizing that practicing mindfulness at all times helps cultivate inner harmony.
The walk is scheduled to reach Matale this afternoon and proceed to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy on April 23.
The journey will continue on April 24 towards Belligammana Rajamaha Viharaya, before returning to Tholangamuwa on April 25. The campaign will then proceed from Tholangamuwa to Yakkala on April 26, and from Yakkala to the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya on April 27.
The final leg on April 28 will conclude at Independence Square in Colombo, where a national event will be held under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
During the event, a sapling of the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi carried throughout the walk will be officially handed over to representatives of the United States.
The monks are expected to remain in Sri Lanka until May 1 before departing for the United States along with a Sri Lankan delegation
