

COLOMBO :: . (Dr.) Dammika Patabendi, Minister of Environment of the Government of Sri Lanka, visited India from 24–27 February to attend the 25th edition of the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2026, held in New Delhi. The Summit was organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India. The theme of the Summit was “Transformations: Vision, Voices and Values for Sustainable Development.”
The Hon. Minister attended the inaugural session of the Summit on 25 February 2026 and participated in the Special Ministerial Plenary Session titled ‘Multilateralism as a Force for Hope and Impact’ on 26 February 2026.
On the sidelines of the Summit, the Hon. Minister participated in a Roundtable discussion with prominent Indian stakeholders in the fields of environment, forestry, and climate change. The Roundtable was facilitated by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and provided an opportunity to exchange views on policy frameworks, technological cooperation, and private-sector engagement in advancing environmental sustainability.
Minister also visited TERI’s Research and Development Centre located in Gurugram. The visit provided exposure to TERI’s Biotechnology Centre, Micro-propagation Technology Park, Fermentation Technology Research Centre, and other emerging technology initiatives.
The visit further strengthened bilateral cooperation between Sri Lanka and India in the areas of environment, climate change mitigation, sustainable development, and green technology.
