




COLOMBO — The Embassy of Viet Nam in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Light of Asia Foundation, celebrated Viet Nam Women’s Day with a special cultural event showcasing traditional Vietnamese tea-making and flower decorations. The event took place on the evening of Sunday, 26 October 2025, at the Light of Asia Centre in Colombo.
The event was graced by Madam Sarah Salih, Spouse of the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished attendees included Ms. Bina Gandhi, Deputy Director of the SAARC Cultural Centre, spouses of heads of diplomatic missions in Sri Lanka, members of the Vietnamese community, and Sri Lankan friends of Viet Nam.
In her remarks,. Ambassador Trinh Thi Tam, Ambassador of Viet Nam to Sri Lanka, emphasized that the event was organized not only to commemorate Viet Nam Women’s Day but also to honour Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is observed in Sri Lanka in the month of October. She also highlighted the similarities between the tea cultures of Viet Nam and Sri Lanka, noting how both traditions embody values of harmony, hospitality, and mindfulness.
Delivering her speech as Chief Guest, Madam Sarah Salih commended the Embassy’s continuous efforts to strengthen cultural ties between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka through meaningful and creative initiatives such as this event.
Key highlights of the celebration included a demonstration of traditional Vietnamese lotus-infused tea-making by Vietnamese tea expert. Lam Dieu Linh, a Sri Lankan tea promotion segment by Jafferjee Brothers, and a flower decoration demonstration by Mrs. Sreeni Devika De Silva. Participants were also invited to actively engage in these activities, creating an atmosphere of cultural exchange and friendship.
Navin Goonaratne, Chairman of the Light of Asia Foundation, expressed his appreciation for the enduring friendship between his organization and Viet Nam, reaffirming the Foundation’s commitment to supporting the Embassy’s cultural diplomacy efforts and fostering mutual understanding between the two nations.
The evening concluded with a warm spirit of camaraderie and cultural appreciation, reflecting the shared values and enduring friendship between the peoples of Viet Nam and Sri Lanka.
