COLOMBO : On February 3rd, 2025, the Embassy of Viet Nam in Sri Lanka organized a
commemorative event to mark the 95th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist
Party of Viet Nam (CPV). The gathering brought representatives from the Sri Lankan
political parties that have relations with the CPV, including the Communist Party of Sri
Lanka (CPSL), the People’s Liberation Front (JVP), the Ambassador of Cuba and the
Deputy Head of the Embassy of China, in a show of solidarity and friendship for Viet
Nam and its CPV.
At the event, the Ambassador of Viet Nam, H.E. Trinh Thi Tam delivered a speech
detailing the 95-year journey of the CPV, highlighting its outstanding milestones and
achievements. Her address painted a picture of resilience and progress, acknowledging
the Party’s pivotal role as the only leader and organizer of Viet Nam’s national
revolution in the old days as well as its economic development nowadays. Ambassador
also recalled the invaluable support and assistance of fraternal parties worldwide for
Viet Nam, including those from Sri Lanka.
In his remarks, Hon. Arun Hemachandra, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and
Foreign Employment complimented the steadfast development Viet Nam has achieved
over the years under the leadership of the CPV. He noted that in terms of regional
politics, Viet Nam serves as an exemplary model of left-oriented governance. He
emphasized that the consistent rule of the CPV has been crucial for Viet Nam’s
reunification as well as its economic growth and poverty fighting. The Deputy Minister
also commended Viet Nam’s significant role in shaping the diplomatic landscape,
especially following its revolution, creating opportunities for left-oriented nations to
collaborate.
Speaking at the commemoration, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri
Lanka (CPSL) Dr. G. Weerasinghe conveyed warm greetings from the CPSL to the
CPV. He highlighted the milestones in the CPV’s development journey from its
founding, praising its active and strategic role in the Vietnamese revolution, its heroic
struggle, and its ongoing work today. He also paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh,
acknowledging his legacy as a great patriot and internationalist. Dr. Weerasinghe further
remarked that as part of ASEAN, the fastest-growing economic region in the world,
Viet Nam is a member with strong economic ties to its neighboring countries, serving
as a source of inspiration and strength for their own struggle.
The event was further enriched by felicitations from the attending parties, each
expressing admiration for the legacy of the CPV. Looking ahead, the event also
highlighted the upcoming 14th National Congress of the CPV, scheduled to take place
in early 2026.
The commemoration provided a platform to celebrate shared values and achievements,
reinforcing the bonds of friendship and solidarity between fraternal political parties of
Sri Lanka and the CPV, and to reinforce the collaborative spirit and mutual aspirations
that continue to bind Viet Nam and Sri Lanka in their future endeavours..
