COLOMBO : In celebration of the 55th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka (1970-2025), the Embassy of Viet Nam in Colombo, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, and the Colombo Times, is organizing a Quiz Competition and a Logo Design Competition.
The launching ceremony for the two competitions took place at the Chancery of the Embassy of Viet Nam in Colombo on 3 January 2025, with the attendance of the Ambassador of Viet Nam to Sri Lanka, H.E. Trinh Thi Tam; Director, Southeast Asia and Central Asia Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Ms. Thilini Ihalage; the Chief Editor of the Colombo Times, Mr. Mohammed Rasooldeen; the Secretary General of the
Sri Lanka – Viet Nam Solidarity Association, Mr. S. Sudasinghe; the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, Dr. G. Weerasinghe and the Head of the Viet Nam community in Sri Lanka, Ms. Nguyen My Trinh.
Speaking at the launch, Ambassador Trinh Thi Tam emphasized the aims of the competitions are to raise the awareness of the traditional friendship and enhance the people-to-people ties between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka. The Ambassador extended a warm invitation to all Sri Lanka citizens in and out of the island to participate in the competitions.
Adding insights to the event, Director Thilini Ihalage praised the deep-rooted traditional friendship between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka, built upon mutual respect and understanding. She praised the initiative of the Embassy to organize these competitions given the immense opportunities waiting for future cooperation between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka.
In his remarks, Chief Editor Mohammed Rasooldeen appreciated the opportunity for the Colombo Times to co-sponsor the competitions while reassuring their support and assistance to the Embassy of Viet Nam in all future activities. Over 3 million worldwide viewers of the Colombo Times website will certainly bring more value and participants to the competitions.
According to the Embassy, the Quiz Competition will run for six months, from January 5 to June 20, 2025 and the Logo Design Competition will be held over three months, from March 1 to May 31, 2025. An award ceremony for the two competitions will be held in July 2025, coinciding with the 55th anniversary celebrations of Viet Nam – Sri Lanka Diplomatic Relations.
As for the Quiz, the Colombo Times website will post a quiz frame consisting of four multiple-choice questions about the bilateral ties between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka as well as a question about the quizzers’ estimation of the number of participants. Viewers can provide answers by clicking the answer button on the quiz frame. Questions will be posted on the Colombo Times website on the 5th of each month, with responses due by the 20th of the same month, and the results of each round will be released on the following month. A winner will be selected each month and three final winners will be selected at the end of the competition for substantial awards.
As for the Logo, designs should draw inspiration from the national emblems, cultures, and identities of both countries. The winning logo will be featured in activities organized by the Embassy to promote Viet Nam – Sri Lanka relations throughout the year 2025. Each participant can submit up to 3 designs, each accompanied by a brief explanation of its meaning, relevance and its contribution to promoting Viet Nam – Sri Lanka relations. A panel of judges, including the Ambassador of Viet Nam to Sri Lanka, Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka, Representatives from the Visual arts faculty of Universities of Sri Lanka, and Sri Lanka – Viet Nam Solidarity Association, will select five top designs for handsome awards.
