COLOMBO- Muslims are becoming innocent victims of circumstances for no fault of theirs, Muslim Congress Leader Rauf Hakeem said on Sunday Aug.8
Speaking at a book launching ceremony, Hakeem lamented that it looks a planned group which wants to sling mud at members of the Muslim community which could eventually damage the good name of their faith.
Citing the recent allegations made at the renowned singer Umara Singhawansa, who is a Muslim, Hakeem said it was a case of mispronouncing the word which cannot be considered as desecration . The veteran singer, he said ,had tendered her apologies if it had hurt the sentiments of the people. Yet, the legislator said the government is still prolonging the case at the ministry of public administration .
Earlier, Hakeem recalled Dr Shafie from the Kurnegala teaching hospital was accused of aborting babies of 900 pregnant women.Subsequently , Shafie was relieved of his charges and walked out scot free without any obligations .
During the peak of the Covid infection in Sri Lanla, dead Muslim bodies were cremated against the wishes of the Muslims.
” As citizens , we have a right to question anybody who violates the basic rule of law,” Hakeem said.advising people not to keep silent when they are
subject to injustices and undue humiliation .
Hakeem was the chief guest at the launch of the book – ‘Inseparable Roots’authored by veteran Tamil writer Najmul Hussain who is an old boy of Hameed Al Husseinie College.
