COLOMBO : The United States Embassy in Sri Lanka donated 4,700 PCR test kits worth Rs. 13 million to the Ministry of Health on Tuesday
The donations included 4,700 PCR tests – part of over $8 million in critical supplies the U.S. has contributed to Sri Lanka since March 2020.
Bradley Elder, Director of Indo-Pacific Development Group symbolically handed the donation to Prof. Channa Jayasumana, State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals at the Health Ministry today. State Minister of Primary Health and Covid Control Specialist Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle also joined the occasion.
Elder stated that the United States Government has provided support for the control of Covid-19 in Sri Lanka since the pandemic’s inception, and will continue to do so to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
As the global leader in public health assistance, the U.S. is committed to helping Sri Lanka combat COVID-19, the Embassy said.
The project was funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Defense for Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Response purposes, and the U.S. Embassy’s Civil Defense Support Division coordinated the purchase and delivery of supplies.
The Ministry of Health will distribute these PCR test kits to laboratories conducting PCR tests island wide.(Lanka Page)
Secretary to the Ministry of Health Major General Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Secretaries to State Ministries Saman Ratnayake and Amal Harsha de Silva were also present on the occasion.
