COLOMBO – The reigning ‘A’ Division league champions, Isipathana College have snatched an early lead to top the latest points table after the second week of matches of the Inter-Schools Under-19 League Rugby Tournament.
The lads from Havelock Park have dominated Group 1A of the Division One Segment ‘A’ Tournament having already recorded two back-to-back bonus points victories.
Isipathana started their campaign with a resounding 32-8 victory over Kingswood College under wet conditions at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy where they collected their points from two goals, three tries and one penalty.
Last week, they produced another outstanding performance to bring down S. Thomas’ College 29-20 at Mount Lavinia where they ran down four tries and put over a penalty for their second successive victory.
Altogether, Isipathana have touched down on nine occasions in their two outings and have accumulated a total of 61 points while conceding 28 points to their opponents.
St. Anthony’s with one bonus point are second in the Group 1A points table with a total of six points followed by D. S. Senanayake College, S. Thomas’ and St. Joseph’s with five points each.
Wesley College, despite losing both their opening games against S. Thomas’ (13-19) and St. Joseph’s (0-3) have done well to collect two bonus points and they are sixth in the table, ahead of Kingswood.
Meanwhile, Royal College took the lead in Group 2A points table with seven points having recorded one win against Science College (45-10) and having lost to St. Peter’s College (5-11) in their opening encounter at Bambalapitiya.
Trinity College, Dharmaraja College and Vidyartha College have collected one bonus point each and are placed second, third and fourth respectively.
The tournament will be continued this week with a card of six matches to be played in Colombo and in Kandy.
