

COLOMBO : The UAE Relief Team departed the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka following the completion of its humanitarian mission. This deployment was part of the urgent response initiated by the United Arab Emirates, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to support those affected by Cyclone Detua and the landslides that struck the country.
The UAE relief teams contributed to the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid totaling 116 tons. The supplies ranged from food provisions to shelter materials, including tents and relief kits, all provided as part of efforts to alleviate the suffering of affected families.
Additionally, the UAE Search and Rescue Team conducted specialized field operations, successfully recovering 20 bodies of missing persons and providing medical treatment to 8 individuals with minor injuries, in close coordination with competent local authorities.
The Head of the UAE Relief Team affirmed that the UAE remains committed to supporting Sri Lanka and all nations affected by natural disasters. He emphasized that humanitarian work is a core principle of the UAE, reflecting its unwavering commitment to standing by affected communities until they overcome the impact of such disasters and fully recover.
