CALIFORNIA : “Inna Lilahi Wa Inna Elayhi Raji’un” “Indeed We belong to Almighty Allah and Indeed to him, we will return”. We mourn the demise of our dear friend and “The Flying Gazelle” the product of Zahira Marhoom Meera Saheeb Abdul Majeed, Retired Superintendent of Police, Member of Parliament and icon former National Captain of Sri Lanka Rugby who brought great honour to Sri Lanka and pride yo Zahira College Colombo for his wonderful contribution to Rugby and his excellent and memorable service as a Police Officer, a very humble, dedicated and one who never lost his stature as a humble human being, as he always moved with the people respectfully to gain their confidence and admiration. Two Zahirians who were prominent in sports specially rugby was Majeed and Tanker Hameed who were both very prominent and successful in their career as Police Officers. Hameed had the good fortune of serving as the personal security officer of President JR Jayewardena. Majeed and Hameed were very cultured, religious, humble, helpful and very friendly human beings who never showed any pride of their position. Majeed came from the Eastern Province. Zahira had many students who brought honor and pride during their career at College and after they left during their exposure in various fields that they chose to serve Alhamdulillah. Majeed and Hameed are no more but their legacy is imprinted in every sportsman and will linger for ever. Majeed for a period served as a parliamentarian of a constituency from the Eastern Province and had left an indelible impression in the minds of the people her served. Majeed and Hameed had been my very good friends at College and outside and whenever we meet had a very cordial and friendly conversations of our past. Their contributions to society be it sports or profession had always been very good and remarkable that they earned the encomium of the people not only the Muslim community but also from all other communities for their straightforward approach and their commitment towards their motherland, never biased nor discriminatory towards anyone but they were well disciplined human beings who earned the honor and respect of the high and low with dignity and distinction Masha Allah. May I join the many others, family, relatives, friends and well wishers to offer prayers and dua supplication for the repose of the soul of our dear friend and colleague Meera Saheeb Abdul Majeed. May Allah forgive his sins, make his journey through the grave pleasant, save him from the torments of the grave and fire, may Allah shroud you with immense love and care in this difficult phase of life, make the grave large, beautiful, fragrant, and a Garden of Bliss, make him sip the sacred water from the Fountain of Kauthar, make him cross the Bridge of Sirat al Mustaqeem gently swiftly and in lightening speed to dwell among the Saliheens in the highest abode in JENNATHUL FIRDHOUSE Ameen. We send our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences on the irreparable loss sustained.
