COLOMBO : The Sri Lanka Railways Department has announced that train services between Badulla and Nanu Oya will resume from June 20, 2026, following the completion of restoration work on the Ambewela–Nanu Oya railway section, which was damaged by the Divitva cyclone.
At present, train operations on the Upcountry Line are limited to the Badulla–Ambewela section. With the reopening of the repaired track, services will be extended to Nanu Oya Railway Station, one of the most popular and scenic destinations among local and foreign tourists.
Sri Lanka Railways stated that the trains operating on this route will include First Class air-conditioned coaches and Second Class reserved seating facilities.
Passengers can reserve seats online through the official reservation portal, https://seatreservation.railway.gov.lk, or purchase tickets at any railway station offering reservation services.
The department further noted that passengers who have already reserved tickets showing Ambewela as the starting or ending station may use those tickets to commence or conclude their journey at Nanu Oya Railway Station once services resume.
