COLOMBO: Tony Ganlath of Ganlath Timber and Transport Services has been elected President of the Sri Lanka-Malaysia Business Council (SLMBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce for the 2026–2027 term. The High Commissioner of Malaysia Badli Hisham Adam was present as chief guest.
The Council’s 32nd Annual General Meeting held on Friday, August 7, at the Amari Hotel, Colombo. The AGM marked an important milestone for the SLMBC, with the appointment of a new office-bearer team to lead the Council during the coming year.
Zahrine Hameen of Aitken Spence Travels (Pvt) Ltd was elected Senior Vice President, while Mohamed Rushdi of MTL Lanka Travels and Logistics (Pvt) Ltd was appointed Vice President. Wathsala Wijesinghe of International Scholar Educational Services (Pvt) Ltd will serve as Treasurer. Immediate Past President Marshad Barry of Amana Bank PLC will continue to serve on the committee.
Representatives from a diverse range of companies will also contribute to the Council’s activities. These include Dialog Axiata PLC, Eduko Pathway (Pvt) Ltd, K&D Group of Companies, Mansoor Gems, Mway (Pvt) Ltd, Overseas Cargo Consultants (Pvt) Ltd, Public Bank Berhad, SmashTaps (Pvt) Ltd, SN Travels (Pvt) Ltd and World Express (CMB) Ltd.
Immediate Past President Marshad Barry said the SLMBC would continue to work closely with the High Commission of Malaysia and High Commissioner Badli Hisham Adam to promote business, trade and investment opportunities between Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
He also highlighted the Council’s continued engagement with key Malaysian agencies, including the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Cyberview.
During the AGM, Barry presented the latest SLMBC newsletter and a token of appreciation to Malaysian High Commissioner Badli Hisham Adam.
The gathering was also addressed by several prominent speakers, including National Chamber of Commerce Secretary General and CEO Shiham Marikar; Spillburg Holdings (Pvt) Ltd Chairman and Managing Director M.H.K.M. Mohamed Hameez; Founder of Fire Circle by ESG and Strategic Communication Specialist Gayani Punchihewa; and Malaysia Islamic Tourism Centre Director General Mohammed Faisal.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Zahrine Hameen, Senior Vice President of the SLMBC.
