COLOMBO : Thnakural , a Tamil daily, bagged the gold award for the “Presidential Environment Awards – 2024” at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall on Friday morning at 10 am, organized by the Central Environment Authority to protect Sri Lanka’s environment.
“Environment Awards – 2024” Gold Award was presented by President Ranil Wickramasinghe to Thinakural assistant editor MHF Husna. Last year, Husna won the bronze award for environment and won the gold award this time. She hails from Colombo 12 and is the wife of teacher Jemsid Aziz Naleemi and former principal of Ihsaniya Arabic College. Marhum Maulavi is the daughter of MZ M Hussain-Jeneha couple.
In this event, Minister of State for Environment Janaka Vakkampura, State Minister for Environment S. Viyajendran, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Central Environment Authority Chairman Venura Fernando, Central Environment Authority Director General Hemantha Jayasinghe.
Ambassadors of China, Egypt, India, USA, Pakistan, Bangladesh, United Kingdom, Canada and Iran and many officials including Sinha were also present.
This year, 901 people applied for the Presidential Environmental Awards. Among them, 124 contestants have won President’s Awards for Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit categories.
