COLOMBO – The Russian School of Ballet and Dancing of the Russian House in Colombo is celebrating its Silver Jubilee! For a quarter of a century, they have carefully preserved and passed on the traditions of Russian ballet and folk dance, nurturing new generations of performers.
A solemn ceremony was held at the Russian House, Colombo, on Friday, February 27, to honour 20 dancers who demonstrated outstanding achievements in 2025 at the Russian Classical Ballet Examination. All awardees received elegant ballerina-shaped statuettes — a symbol of beauty, dedication, and inspiration.
The evening was adorned with several magnificent ballet performances including a student of Founding instructor, Mrs. Galina Pleshakova performing as the Snow Queen, a vibrant and memorable performance was also presented by students of senior instructor Mrs. Samantha Samararatne.
Director of the Russian House in Colombo, Madam Maria Popova, sincerely thanked the teachers for their tremendous work, dedication to art, and contribution to the upbringing of children.
A particularly touching moment of the evening was the recognition of Mrs. Chandi Aluvihare, celebrating 25 years at the Russian House in Colombo as the Cultural Officer, coordinating Russian Schools of Ballet and Art. For her many years of service and dedication, she was presented with a commemorative medal and a gift.
