RUZAIK FAROOK
COLOMBO — The Russian House in Colombo made a donation to the Jumma Masjidh preschool center, in Maligawatte, Colombo on Tuesday February 18 for children from underprivileged families.
The funds had been raised during the Christmas charity bazaars in November 2024.
Located in one of the poorest areas of Colombo, the preschool provides its young pupils with free government meals. As their special request, the funds were used to purchase personalized food containers and art supplies for all five hundred children attending the branches of Jumma Masjidh.
Addressing the gathering, head of the Russian House Maria Popova noted that her team came to bring them a little happiness and share a piece of their hearts. “Children are our future, and we are happy that we can do something useful for the younger generation of Sri Lankans, as our countries – Russia and Sri Lanka – have always been friendly and supported each other. Representing Russia, we are especially pleased to do something good, maybe not very big, but good – for the children of Sri Lanka.”
