COLOMBO – The 31st Interact District Conference organized by the Interact Clubs of Royal College, Sujatha Vidyalaya, Wycherley International School Colombo, Lyceum International School Gampaha and Dharmaraja College Kandy was held under the theme, “Persisting Impediment – Pursuing Infinity” recently, at Citrus Waskaduwa with participation of Interactors Island wide, the event was able to accurately inculcate the attribute of resilience within Interactors.
The experience of this event was one singular to itself; Interactors from all corners of the island had come together, amidst a crisis, to celebrate each other and to work together towards a singular goal of ‘Service above Self ’. – It represented what lay at the foundation of the Interact movement as stated by the chief guests of the event Rotary District Governor, PHF Rtn.PP. Youth Service Committee Chair MPHF Rtn. PP. Dr Rohantha Athukorala, District Interact Committee Chair PHF Rtn. PP. Champa Perera, District Interact Representative Int. PP. Murthaaz Barry and the Chairperson of the 31st Interact District Conference, Int. Aabid Afzal participated at the occasion and the occasion was graced by the keynote speaker a craft teacher, who is also diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome, Nilshani De Silva, explained how she overcame her struggles, not letting them defeat her. Her words of inspiration as she narrated her life story brought each attendee to tears, prompting everyone to face their struggles with a new perspective. Following that Group Director, The Capital Maharaja Organization Chevaan Daniel, relived his times of Interact as he humorously recalled the reasons for his Interact journey and how it changed him. “Each opportunity only comes once, and if you do not seize it, you lose it” were some wise words by the esteemed speaker, before he motivated each Interactor to go for their dreams, regardless of the obstacles that lay in the way. This colourful event was coupled with entertainment and with Interact Choice Awards segment.
“The Interactor” magazine was also launched on the occasion and first copy of the magazine was handed over to the Chief Guest Rotary District Governor, PHF Rtn.PP. Aruni Malalasekera
