COLOMBO: The Group of Sixties of Zahira College, Colombo, has announced the inaugural Zahira Invitational 7’s Rugby Tournament, which will be held on July 19 at the Royal Sports Complex, Colombo. The tournament will bring together 12 of Sri Lanka’s leading schools rugby teams for a day of fast-paced and exciting competition.
The participating schools are Zahira College, Isipathana College, Thurstan College, D.S. Senanayake College, Ananda College, Science College, Lumbini College, Mahanama College, Dharmaraja College, Vidyartha College, Sumangala College, and Nalanda College.
A media briefing to announce the tournament was held at the Abdul Gaffoor Hall of Zahira College on Friday, July 10. Addressing the gathering, the organisers said the tournament aims to celebrate the rich tradition of Sri Lankan schools rugby while providing a highly competitive platform for the country’s emerging rugby talent. Spectators can look forward to high-intensity matches, outstanding performances, and the opportunity to witness the next generation of rugby stars in action.
The tournament is sponsored by Moose Clothing as the Main Sponsor, with Diamond Milk serving as the Co-Sponsor. Other official partners include ThePapare.com (Broadcasting Partner), Knockout Sports Sri Lanka (Social Media Partner), Ralhum Sports (Ball Partner), Mark UI (Creative Partner), MILO (Energizing Drink Partner), and Maggi (Food Partner).
Zahira College Principal Trizviiy Marikar addressed the media and highlighted the college’s proud rugby tradition and its continued commitment to developing young sporting talent.
The Group of Sixties of Zahira College has invited rugby enthusiasts from across the country to attend the tournament and experience what promises to be one of the most exciting schools rugby events of the season.
Among those present at the media briefing were Group of Sixties President Azmi Yoosuf, Project Chairman M.S. Mazeer, Secretary Muhiseen Ariff, and other members of the organising committee.
