JAFFNA :Speaker of Parliament Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne stated that the core essence of Swami Vipulananda’s exceptional service is to serve others unconditionally. He further stated that, therefore, instead of narrow divisions such as race, caste, religion, and gender, social cooperation must be built by respecting cultural identities, and that Swami Vipulananda’s philosophical path as well as his extensive service, which contributed to the Tamil cultural revival, could be utilized for that purpose.
The Speaker expressed these views at the ceremony held recently (19) at Manipay Hindu College, marking the centenary of Swami Vipulananda’s ordination and unveiling his statue under the patronage of the Speaker. The event was attended by Hon. Members of Parliament Dr. S. Sri Bavanandarajah and Rajeevan Jeyachandramoorthy, along with the Governor of the Northern Province, state officials of the region, and local residents.
At this event, a commemorative stamp and a commemorative first-day cover were issued in memory of Swami Vipulananda, and under the patronage of the Speaker, the presentation of financial assistance to Hindu Kovils in the Jaffna region was carried out by the Department of Hindu Religious and Hindu Cultural Affairs.
During his visit, the Speaker also paid homage at the Nagadeepa Vihara, the Nagapooshani Amman Kovil, and the Nallur Kovil, and undertook visits to the Jaffna Fort and the Jaffna Library.
