

COLOMBO — .The Centre of the Russian Geographical Society in Sri Lanka celebrated the RGS’s 180th anniversary at the Colombo Public Library on Friday August 22 in the presence of Anton Jayakodi, Deputy Minister of Environment and Vrai Cally Balthazar, Mayor of Colombo as chief guests.
The special occasion featured the planting of 180 plants of various kinds at the Colombo Public Library premises which benefits the library too. Following the tree planting the guests were guided to the first floor where the official proceedings took place with speech by Madam Maria Popova, Councilor of the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka and Director of the Russian House in Colombo.
The event concluded with a picture/ photo Exhibition on the history of the RGS and fellowship. The event was graced by officials from the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka, Russian House in Colombo, Office bearers of the Centre of the Russian Geographical Society in Sri Lanka, members of the Literary circle and Russian Club.
