COLOMBO : Israeli regime’s violation of Iranian territory and sovereignty was a breach of the principles of the United Nations Charter, Dr. Alireza Delkhosh, ambassador of Iran said here on Thursday, 26 June in Colombo .
The envoy was addressing a packed audience of media personnel at his residence on Thursday to tell the Israeli unlawful aggression on Iran which had killed 627 people and injured another 500 more.
The ambassador recalled that the Zionist regime’s attacks on 13th June 2025 targeted residential buildings, killing innocent civilians, including women and children.
“ The armed attack by the Zionist regime against Iran is a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.”
By attacking Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities in Natanz, the Zionist regime crossed a new red line, as such attacks are unequivocally prohibited under established international law. This must be met with resolute international condemnation. The attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities violates international law, the non-proliferation regime, and IAEA Board of Governors Resolution 533.”
The Zionist regime and the U.S. attack on Iran constitutes a clear act of aggression and an egregious, unprecedented violation of international law, posing a real threat to global peace.
The envoy pointed out that IAEA has repeatedly confirmed that Iran’s nuclear facilities are used exclusively for peaceful purposes and remain under the most comprehensive and intrusive international inspection regime. The deliberate targeting of these safeguarded, civilian nuclear facilities by the Israeli regime constitutes an act of intentional aggression and a blatant violation of international law and the legal framework governing nuclear safety and security.
“ It is worth noting that the Zionist regime’s attacks took place while Iran was prepared for the sixth round of negotiations with goodwill and a new proposal when the Israeli regime attacked our country. “
“ In response to the aggression, Iran based on Article 51 of the UN Charter, which recognizes the right of self-defense for states, reported the incident to the UN Security Council, requesting immediate action, and proceeded with a proportionate military response.”
Iran considers its response to the Zionist regime’s barbaric aggression as an inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. Iran’s response was precisely calibrated to match the nature of Israel’s military threat and aggression.”
“Sovereignty is non-negotiable. Nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards must not be targeted. Armed force must not be allowed to replace diplomacy. The Israeli regime cannot be permitted to rewrite international law through repeated violations and provocations. The path to peace begins with accountability, and the international system must demonstrate the will to uphold it,” the envoy added.
In conclusion, the envoy said : “ Iran calls on the international community to condemn this act of aggression and reaffirm its commitment to the UN Charter and the fundamental principles of international law. the international community witnessed one of the gravest violations of international law in recent years. This assault, which resulted in the death and injury of numerous civilians in Iran, not only endangered the security of the West Asian region but also posed a threat to the foundations of the multilateral international order.”
From the perspective of international law, this attack constitutes a clear violation of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use of force or even the threat of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has reaffirmed this principle in multiple rulings, including in the case of Nicaragua v. United States (1986) and the Advisory Opinion concerning the Legal Consequences of the Construction of a Wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (2004).” Daily News
