COLOMBO — The annual “Nethinethera” Media Day of Isipathana College was recently held at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre and it was celebrated as Sri Lanka’s largest trilingual school media day. Organized with the support of Derana, which attracted more than 1,200 participants and guests.
The much-anticipated event showcased the media, journalism, and announcing talents of students representing schools from across Sri Lanka, providing a dynamic platform for young participants to demonstrate their creativity, confidence, and communication skills. The event was held under the patronage of the Principal of the College, D. P. Udawattage.
The chief guest at the occasion was Deputy Minister of Mass Media Dr. Kaushalya Ariyarathne, whose inspiring address encouraged students to strive for excellence in the field of media and communication. Secretary, Ministry of Health and Mass Media Anil Jasinghe attended as the guest of honour.
The Media Unit of D. S. Senanayake College emerged as the overall champion of this year’s competition and received the award from Dr. Anil Jasinghe.
“Nethinethera” Media Day stood out as a memorable celebration of youth talent and creativity, highlighting the growing importance of media literacy and effective communication in shaping the future leaders of the country.
Deputy Principal Pradeep Chandrasekara, Teachers-in-Charge Mrs. Zinha Safwan, President Minoru Dushmantha, Secretaries Methsilu Ranasingha and Thamindu Hasarinda, along with students, teachers, parents, and distinguished invitees, were also present at the occasion.
