COLOMBO ; Berendina Development Services (BDS) launched its inauguration ceremony of the project on assisting the families affected by Easter Sunday Attack on the recently at the Zions Church Manteressa Batticaloa in collaboration with Tesco International Sourcing Limited (“Tesco”), as part of TESCOs charitable initiative. Senior Pastor Roshan Maheshan of Zions Church Batticaloa graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest for the day whilst the staff of BDS conducted the inauguration ceremony.
During the inauguration ceremony scholarships were provided to 6 children who were persuading their tertiary education, donation of bicycle to a student who lost his parents and walked long miles to succeed in his education and livelihood assistance consisting of electric welding inverter, clothing materials, stitching materials, overlock machine, desks, chairs and tools for saloon to 6 families in order to enhance their entrepreneurship and expedite sustainable life style.
Further, BDS has planned to ensure that Youth appear as “Change Makers of the Society” by providing trainings on Leadership together with first aid trainings and training on first response mechanisms for the 30 youths at Zions Church on mitigating and challenging the unprecedented phenomenal in the country. Children are uniquely and horrifically injured and impacted by explosive weapons compared to adults during the bomb blast, and that children exposed to explosive weapons often present with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety and agoraphobia. In addition, Art therapy, games, dance therapy and other tools will be catered to the children affected by phobia during the blast to aid them overcome the traumatic disorder.
