READER’S POINT OF VIEW
Colombo : n light of the increasingly torrid climatic conditions, it is time to reconsider the current method of stationing Special Task
Force (STF) personnel at the entrance of Temple Trees. The guards are currently assigned to metal cubicles with aluminium or tin roofing mounted on H-iron frames, positioned on either side of the main gate facing Galle Road. These enclosures, while offering basic shelter, become virtual heat chambers( ”solar- operated ovens”) under the relentless sun.
This situation not only compromises the comfort and health of the security officers but also reflects an outdated approach to security. Instead, why not invest in strengthening the perimeter with advanced surveillance infrastructure, such as high-definition CCTV while also enhancing the physical barricades?
Modern security solutions can ensure equal—if not better—protection without subjecting personnel to harsh environmental conditions. I sincerely urge the kind attention of Hon. Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarsuriya to consider this proposal and direct efforts toward upgrading the system with humane and forward-thinking measures.
